The full specialist programme in dermatology and venereology includes training at a clinical centre and passing a state examination. It entitles the doctor to carry out, independently, the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the skin, hair and nails, and of sexually transmitted diseases.

Scope of the consultation

The consultation includes a medical history, clinical examination, establishing a diagnosis and discussing further management. Where necessary, we perform dermoscopy and order additional tests, including mycological and laboratory tests.

Inflammatory skin diseases

  • psoriasis — topical treatment, conventional systemic treatment and preparation of documentation for qualification to a drug programme,
  • atopic dermatitis in children and adults,
  • seborrhoeic dermatitis and dandruff,
  • contact eczema and hand eczema,
  • acne vulgaris and rosacea,
  • acute and chronic urticaria.

Infections of the skin and its appendages

  • fungal infections of the skin, feet and nails — with a mycological test before treatment begins,
  • folliculitis, boils and other bacterial infections,
  • viral warts and molluscum contagiosum,
  • recurrent herpes and shingles,
  • scabies and lice.

Diseases of the hair and nails

  • androgenetic, telogen and alopecia areata,
  • scarring alopecia — an early diagnosis is decisive, because the process is irreversible,
  • diseases of the nail plate, including psoriatic and post-traumatic changes.

Pigmented lesions and venereology

  • assessment of melanocytic naevi with a dermatoscope,
  • qualification of skin lesions for removal or histopathological assessment,
  • diagnosis and treatment of sexually transmitted diseases.

How the visit proceeds

  • Medical history – how long the symptoms have lasted and how they are developing, previous treatment, coexisting illnesses, medicines taken, allergies and family history.
  • Clinical examination – assessment of the skin lesions, where necessary over the whole skin surface, and dermoscopy.
  • Additional tests – where justified, collection of material for a mycological test or a request for laboratory tests.
  • Diagnosis and treatment plan – a discussion of the management together with the expected duration of therapy and the limitations of the method.
  • Recommendations – given in writing, together with a prescription and the date of a follow-up visit.

A visit usually lasts 20–30 minutes. Assessing all moles over the whole body requires more time — please mention this when booking.

Preparing for the visit

  • stop using medicinal preparations 2–3 days before the visit so that the clinical picture is not obscured,
  • remove nail polish if the visit concerns the nails — this is a condition for collecting material for a mycological test,
  • come without make-up if the lesions are on the face,
  • prepare a list of the medicines you take and the results of previous tests,
  • photographs of the lesions taken during a flare-up, if the symptoms are milder at the moment,
  • avoid sunbathing before a planned mole assessment.

When it is worth booking a consultation

  • a skin lesion is growing, changing colour or shape, itching or bleeding,
  • lesions persist for more than 4 weeks despite treatment with over-the-counter preparations,
  • lesions recur in the same place several times a year,
  • nails change colour or thickness — the diagnosis must be confirmed before treatment for a fungal infection begins,
  • a chronic condition requires monitoring and adjustment of treatment,
  • melanoma or another skin cancer has occurred in the family.

Medical records and prescriptions

We keep medical records of every visit in accordance with the applicable regulations. Recommendations are given in writing and prescriptions are issued electronically. Continuing treatment of a chronic condition requires a medical assessment — we do not issue prescriptions without a prior consultation.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a referral for a consultation?

No. We see patients privately and no referral is required.

Do you see children?

The scope of visits for patients under 18 is confirmed when booking. A visit by a person under 18 requires the presence of a parent or legal guardian.

Can a test for fungal infection be done at the first visit?

Yes, provided the nail plates are not covered with polish and antifungal preparations have not been used in recent days. Please take this into account when preparing for the visit.

How long does a mycological test result take?

The waiting time depends on the type of test and we give it after the material has been collected. A culture takes longer than direct microscopy.

Will I receive the recommendations in writing?

Yes, together with the date of a follow-up visit. Prescriptions are issued electronically.

Does the doctor also perform aesthetic medicine treatments?

The consultation covers general dermatology and venereology. For aesthetic medicine treatments, please contact reception, who will indicate the right doctor.
